Stanley Cup Odds: Favored Capitals Have Improved Odds

The Washington Capitals’ reign atop the Stanley Cup futures at online sportsbook Bodog continued this week and their odds of winning the Cup actually improved over the last seven days.

Last week Washington was a +550 favorite on the Stanley Cup odds. A week later they’ve been bumped up to +450 after winning four in a row and posting an 8-1-1 record in their last 10 games. During their four-game winning streak the Capitals outscored their opponents 18-7 and they lead the league in goal differential at plus 49. Washington also leads the league with 67 points.

While Washington remains on top of the Bodog futures two new teams have moved in to share the No. 2 slot. The Los Angeles Kings and Chicago Blackhawks jumped over the Dallas Stars and share second on the odds list at +700. The Kings have widened their lead atop the Pacific Division after going 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. After a slow start Anze Kopitar has taken off with 15 points in his last eight games

The Blackhawks are on an eight-game winning streak and sit only two points behind Dallas in the Central Division. Patrick Kane leads the league with 63 points on the season and rookie Artemi Panarin has had no problem coming over from the KHL, leading all rookies with 39 points.

The Dallas Stars show up on the odds list next, still at +750. The once unstoppable Stars have won just two of their last five games and have been held to two goals or less four times.

The biggest riser on the Cup futures for the second week in row are the Florida Panthers. Florida hit +1000 this week despite their winning sneak getting snapped at 12 games. The streak vaulted the Panthers to first place in the Atlantic Division and onto people’s radar as a Cup contender.

Right behind the Panthers are the top Canadian team on the futures, Montreal at +1400. After a horrible month of December the Canadiens started January with three wins in their first four games. Carey Price finally started skating again, but he won’t return to the net until at least February.

The rest of the Canadian clubs still sit well back on the futures list. Ottawa, Vancouver and Calgary are all at +5000 at Bodog again this week. Edmonton has tumbled down the list again to land at +10000 along with Winnipeg. Toronto is still among the cellar dwellers at +15000.
