The Chicago Blackhawks have made gains in both the standings and the Stanley Cup futures over the past two weeks, as they’re now behind just the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals on that NHL wagering list.
The Blackhawks have moved up from 12/1 to 9/1 on the latest Stanley Cup futures list at the Bodog Sportsbook, with the Penguins and Capitals both at 7/1 odds to win the NHL’s championship in the spring. Chicago has been getting good production from their top two lines along with solid netminding from starting goaltender Corey Crawford.
Pittsburgh hopes to get superstar Sidney Crosby back in the lineup soon, but in the meantime they’ve stayed in the top tier of the Eastern Conference standings. The Capitals have only been getting average production from their superstar, Alex Ovechkin, but they’re riding high in the Eastern Conference standings after one month as well.
Joining the Blackhawks at 9/1 odds to win the Stanley Cup are the Vancouver Canucks, with the Philadelphia Flyers and the San Jose Sharks both at 10/1 on that futures list. The Los Angeles Kings sit at 12/1 odds right now, while the Detroit Red Wings, who have been going through a rough patch lately, are down from 11/1 to 13/1 odds.
The Buffalo Sabres are next at 14/1 odds, with the Boston Bruins at 16/1 odds despite the fact they’ve been languishing near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. If Boston’s Cup hangover continues they’ll sink even farther on the championship odds.
The Tampa Bay Lightning round out the top tier of contenders at 20/1 odds to win the Stanley Cup at the Bodog Sportsbook, while early surprises who have been moving up the list include the Edmonton Oilers (30/1), Toronto Maple Leafs (30/1), and Dallas Stars (35/1).
