Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins bolstered their lineup over the summer with the acquisition of Phil Kessel from the Toronto Maple Leafs, but they’re still trailing the top favorites on the odds to win the 2016 Stanley Cup at the sportsbooks.
The Penguins sit sixth on the Stanley Cup futures at Bodog at +1400 with training camp on the horizon, putting them in a tie with the St. Louis Blues and behind five other teams on those betting lines at the sportsbook.
The Chicago Blackhawks continue to lead the way on the odds to win the 2016 Stanley Cup at Bodog despite their roster upheaval and off-ice issues from this past summer, with the defending champions sitting at +650 on the futures.
Four other teams are then at +1000 on those betting lines at the sportsbook, including the defending Eastern Conference champion Tampa Bay Lightning. The New York Rangers, Anaheim Ducks, and Los Angeles Kings are the other three teams listed at +1000 on the updated Stanley Cup odds.
Following the Penguins it’s then the Minnesota Wild at +1600 on the latest Cup odds at Bodog, with the Nashville Predators, Washington Capitals, and Montreal Canadiens all at +1800. The Habs are the top Canadian club on the Stanley Cup odds by a large margin; the Winnipeg Jets are next at +2800.
The other five Canadian clubs then follow along behind the Jets, with the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers both at +3300, the Ottawa Senators at +4000, and the Vancouver Canucks at +5000. The Maple Leafs, meanwhile, are down with the Stanley Cup longshots at the sportsbook at +10000.
The biggest longshot on the NHL futures, however, is the Arizona Coyotes, who hold down +15000 odds at Bodog to raise the Stanley Cup in the desert in the season ahead. The Buffalo Sabres and the Carolina Hurricanes join the Maple Leafs at +10000.
