The Pittsburgh Penguins don’t have injured star forward Sidney Crosby in their lineup right now, but after making several trades over the past month they sit atop the odds to win the Stanley Cup at the sportsbooks.
Pittsburgh added forward Jarome Iginla, forward Brenden Morrow, defenseman Doug Murray, and forward Jussi Jokinen through trades with the Calgary Flames, Dallas Stars, San Jose Sharks, and Carolina Hurricanes, and as Crosby recovers from a broken jaw they sit as the 15/4 favorites on the Stanley Cup odds at Bodog.
Chicago’s biggest acquisition prior to the NHL’s trade deadline was just depth forward Michal Handzus, but sitting atop the Western Conference standings heading into the final stretch of the season has them second at 4/1 on the odds to win the Stanley Cup at Bodog.
The Boston Bruins, who picked up forward Jaromir Jagr at Dallas’ fire sale, are then at 8/1 on those NHL futures, followed by the Anaheim Ducks at 10/1. The Vancouver Canucks are at 11/1, and the Los Angeles Kings and Montreal Canadiens are both at 14/1 on the Stanley Cup odds at Bodog.
That group is followed by the San Jose Sharks and St. Louis Blues at 16/1, with the New York Rangers at 18/1. New York dealt forward Marian Gaborik to Columbus for forwards Derick Brassard and Derek Dorsett and defenseman John Moore to try to bolster their roster for a shot at the playoffs.
The Toronto Maple Leafs hold down 20/1 odds on those NHL futures, with the Ottawa Senators having slipped back to 33/1 odds. The Detroit Red Wings and Winnipeg Jets are both listed at 40/1 odds as they try to get into the playoff picture late in the season.
