It didn’t take long for the Washington Capitals to re-establish themselves as the Stanley Cup favorites at online sportsbook Bodog. Just one week in fact. The Capitals shared the top spot on the Cup futures last week with Dallas but a five-game winning streak changed that and boosted them to +550.
The Caps take their five-game winning streak into Carolina on Tuesday night. Washington’s fifth win in a row might have been the most impressive as it came against one of their arch rivals, the New York Rangers. That big 7-3 win snapped a four-game losing streak against New York.
With the Caps moving into the top spot that dropped former co-favorite Dallas to second on the odds at +700 at Bodog, followed by Los Angeles at +800 and Chicago at +900. The aforementioned Rangers, Montreal and St. Louis round out the Top 5, all at +1400.
That of course means Montreal continues to be the top Canadian team on the Cup odds. Montreal is holding on to first place in the Atlantic Division but their grip has loosened considerably with Boston only one point back and Detroit only two points out.
December has actually been quite a rough month for Montreal so far with only two wins in nine games.
After Montreal most of the Canadian teams are tightly bunched in the odds. Ottawa is next at +4000 at Bodog, while Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg are all listed at +5000. Toronto remains the lone outlier as a huge Stanley Cup longshot at +15000.
