The Washington Capitals continue to be the favorites to raise the Stanley Cup at season’s end at online sportsbook Bodog, while the Montreal Canadiens are still seen as Canada’s top hope for the Stanley Cup heading north despite their current skid.
The Capitals remain steady atop the Bodog Stanley Cup futures at +550. That’s down slightly from the +500 odds they had last week, but that’s mere pennies. Washington has a league-leading 61 points and an 8-1-1 record in their last 10 games.
The Dallas Stars are still second on the odds list at +750, also down slightly from +600. Dallas has hit a bit of a rough patch lately, having lost three straight and posting a 5-3-2 record in their last 10 games.
Next in line are the Los Angeles Kings at +800 and the Chicago Blackhawks at +900, followed by five teams stacked together at +1400. Included in these five teams are the Canadiens, New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues, Florida Panthers and Anaheim Ducks.
The standouts from those five are the red-hot Panthers and the Ducks who are finally on the rise. The Panthers rose to +1400 from +2000 and have won 10 straight to take over top spot in the Atlantic Division and sit second overall in the Eastern Conference.
Anaheim rose to +1400 from +2800 after pulling themselves out of the Western Conference basement. If the Ducks finally start playing like the team that won the Pacific Division last year their odds could continue to rise.
Let’s not forget about Montreal. After routing Boston in the Winter Classic the Habs stopped their slide down the Cup futures this week and rebounded from +2000 back up to +1400.
That has Montreal still well ahead of the rest of the Canadian clubs, as the Stanley Cup odds for the other Canadian franchises include Ottawa and Vancouver at +4000, Calgary at +5000, Edmonton at +6600, Winnipeg at +7500 and Toronto at +10000.
