With just over a month remaining in the NHL’s regular season schedule Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals are still the favorites on the odds to win the Stanley Cup at online sportsbook Bodog.
Currently in the middle of a west coast road trip the Capitals have by far the best record in the NHL with 103 points. No other team has cracked 90 points yet. At Bodog the oddsmakers have Washington listed as a +375 favorite on the latest Stanley Cup odds.
Right behind the Capitals on the odds are the Chicago Blackhawks at +500. The defending Cup champions defeated Washington last week, but they are a disappointing 5-3-2 in their last 10 games. That small slump has allowed the Dallas Stars to catch the Blackhawks in the Central Division standings and the two rivals are currently tied for top spot.
Sitting in third on the Bodog futures are the soaring Anaheim Ducks at +800. It’s hard to believe that just a few months ago Anaheim had one of the worst records in the league. Now they’re one point out of first in the Pacific Division and have won 17 of their last 21 games.
Rounding out the Top 5 on the Bodog odds are the Dallas Stars and Los Angeles Kings, both at +1000. The Stars somewhat surprisingly are up to +1000 from +1100 a week ago. We say surprisingly because the Stars are 3-5-2 in their last 10 games.
The Kings continue to hold off the Ducks in the Pacific Division and they also edged Washington in overtime on Wednesday night. The Kings do have a tough stretch coming up with five straight games against teams currently in the playoff picture including Chicago, Dallas, the New York Rangers, Boston Bruins and Nashville Predators.
The two biggest shifts in the odds this week belong to the Bruins and Predators. Boston is up to +1800 on the Stanley Cup futures after sitting at +2500 last week. The Bruins are also making a run at the Atlantic Division crown after winning four of five to start March.
The Predators’ slide down the odds from +2000 to their current position at +2800 is perplexing. Nashville has picked up at least a point in their last 14 games at 9-0-5. During that span Filip Forsberg has been on an absolute tear with 13 goals and 19 points.
The list of Canadian teams clinging to the odds list got shorter again this week with only two remaining; the Ottawa Senators at +10,000 and the Montreal Canadiens at +20,000. Ottawa is the closest to a playoff spot, but they’re still five points out and need to jump over two teams.
